    Any tips on how/when to integrate these movements in the basic steps? Would you actively lead with the upper body before the hips follow? I find this bit really tricky!

      Hi Barney. Great question, thanks for asking!
      The upper body and hips work together. The idea is to engage your abdominals and your back as you move your hips. Not to move your hips just by sticking them out. As you’re doing these ribcage isolation exercises, focus on using your abdominal and back muscles. It is tricky and it does take time for it to sink in.
      To practice:
      For example – Rumba walks: You want to generate a habit of compression in the ribs on the side of the standing leg “BEFORE YOU STEP”, with the other/free leg. This way, there is no dead action.
      Also try it in cucarachas/ cuban rocks. all good places to put in this action!
